Nevers backs Connie

Veteran local coach, Winston Nevers, has lashed out at Netball Jamaica's decision to appoint Englishwoman Jermaine Allison-McCracken as the Sunshine Girls head coach ahead of former player Connie Francis.

Francis has more than 20 years coaching experience and was one of three candidates interviewed for the post, which has been vacant since Minneth Reynolds resigned last November.

PROVEN HERSELF

Nevers, who is the coach of many-time national club champions Jamalco said Francis has proven herself internationally and should have been given the job.

"I think the job should have gone to Connie because we don't know anything about this lady and we don't know if this lady can coach but we know what Connie can do already," said Nevers.

"You don't need to see Connie for another six months. All they needed to do was to do the interview and then give her the job and if she fails then you give the other lady ...," he said.

Netball Jamaica said Allison-McCracken will be in charge for a six-month probation period. Nevers said he knew nothing about Allison-McCracken and he is unaware of her coaching abilities.

"I don't think they were looking for experience or the best person to coach the national team. I believe that they were looking for paper (certificates) and as far as I am concerned, paper is not only it, you have to be able to do the practical," Nevers noted.
