OLYMPIC 110m hurdles bronze medallist Hansle Parchment said he is close to getting back to his best as he continues his preparation for the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old was forced to miss last year's Olympic Games in Rio after failing to recover from persistent hamstring and groin issues.

However, the former Kingston College athlete said he has been training well so far and is looking forward to a productive season.

"It is looking pretty good, so far. I am preparing to start the season," said Parchment.

" I think I will open at the UTech Classics and then we will take it on the road from there. I am 70 per cent at the moment, but I am improving pretty quickly and looking forward to being much better in the next two weeks," he added.

Recovery period

Parchment, who has not competed in eight months, said is has been a difficult recovery period but has been doing his best to stay focussed ahead of the new season.

"It's been a pretty terrible injury because it is rough, on any athlete, but we try to do our best to maintain and keep our health as best as possible.

"I think mentally I am usually able to handle myself pretty well and try not to worry about the injury because I try to focus on getting better," he said.

"I am also focusing on trying to get my technique and improving myself so that I can go out and compete to the best of my abilities," he added.

Parchment, who has a personal best of 12.94, said he is anticipating a good season.

"Things are coming on pretty well and I am looking forward to a good season. I am also looking forward to competing for the fans."
