Champs 2018: Class Two girls 100m hurdles will be hot

A year ago there was a battle royal in the Class Two girls 100 metres hurdles as the trio of Britany Anderson, Daszay Freeman and Shanette Allison pushed for supremacy.

This year another showdown is looming as St Jago High's Crystal Morrison and Ackera Nugent of Excelsior High could threaten 13.04 seconds record set by Anderson last year.

Morrison who broke the Class Three 80m hurdles record in the semi-finals last year with a 10.98 seconds clocking, prevailed in the finals to score a close win over Nugent and is determined to maintain her dominance.

Both have been in some close finishes so far this season with Morrison having a 3-1 edge and were both impressive at the Carifta Trials recently where Morrison won in a wind aided 13.07, ahead of Nugent 13.20.

"Last year I did very well and I want to continue my winning ways in Class Two and I am very confident I can do so," said Morrison.

Morrison is enjoying her rivalry with Nugent.

"This is a friendly rivalry and we always bring out our 'A' game when we face each other and this has resulted in some close finishes," she continued.

She is keeping one eye on the record.

"Only time will tell. My aim is just to get out very fast to the first hurdle and then take it from there," said Morrison who will also compete in the long jump.

The Class Two 100m hurdles heats are on tomorrow morning.
