Irwin’s captain plans to lead from the front
Irwin High School daCosta Cup team captain Shaquoy Troupe, who scored a sublime free kick against Cornwall College in their 2-1 defeat in Saturday’s opening game, is prepared to shoulder the responsibility of getting his team out of Group A.
Troupe’s goal on the stroke of half-time at the Montego Bay Sports Complex had the 2018 finallist under pressure until defensive errors saw Irwin lost the game in the last 10 minutes.
Despite the defeat, Troupe was named player of the match after an impressive performance controlling the midfield and tempo of the game.
Groove and rhythm
“It was my first time playing in the Catherine Hall Sports Complex. In the changing room, I was a bit nervous but after getting into the groove and rhythm, I just carried out instructions,” Troupe said.
“I’ve been playing central midfield from the day I started playing football. I watch video clips so I know what the central midfield movements are and I just came out here and carry them out.”
Troupe, who is determined to lead from the front, said they are focused on doing the right things in their match today versus St James High.
“Yes, we will be looking at the things we did wrong but it’s to work on them in training. I hope that in the upcoming games, we don’t make those silly mistakes again. We will also be focusing on the things we did right and look to repeat them in the next game. As the captain, I have to lead from the front and motivate the team if we are to get out of the group,” Troupe said.
