Female apprentice jockey Tamicka Lawrence will be back in the saddle tomorrow after falling from her mount BORN DIPLOMAT last Sunday at Caymanas Park.

The incident took place at the start of the sixth race over the five-furlong-straight course, after she was thrown from her mount and later was kicked in the thigh by the horse.

Lawrence, who has been riding for almost two years, told STAR Sports that she is still very shaken from the incident, but this will not stop her from pursuing her dreams of being a top jockey.

"I feel like it is happening over and over because I still see, every day, like it just happened and so I am going to take a time to really get over it," said Lawrence.

"It is not really the drop, because I feel like it leaves a stigma on me. The horse just rail-up and darted to the left, and I fell right over and got a little kick from her on my right thigh," she said.

NEGATIVE COMMENTS

"But, you know, everyone don't see that, they just see it as the female and say, 'Okay, I know you don't ready and all kind of negative stuff,'" Lawrence said.

The 26-year-old, who is among three female apprentice jockeys currently riding at Caymanas Park, has yet to win a race from her 20 mounts. She noted that this was the first time in her career that she was falling from a horse in a race.

"I just dust myself off and ready again because I can't pay that much mind, as I can't dwell on the past," said Lawrence.

She is set to partner ANASO in the fifth race tomorrow, which she achieved her best placing on when the horse finished third a few weeks ago.

"I did my medical on Tuesday and the doctors have passed my fitness, and so I will be riding ANASO on Saturday," she said. "I am working very hard towards it (winning a race) because I have been putting in a lot of work," she said.
