PFJL ready to get the ball rolling - ... whenever health officials give to green light for football

Donovan White, a member of the board of the newly formed Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL), said his organisation remains very optimistic that all the relevant protocols will be approved for the start of the National Premier League competition.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness recently rejected the Jamaica Football Federation's COVID-19 protocols for the start of the competition, which was set to begin on November 14.

The local governing body for football has since resubmitted their protocols and are now awaiting the approvals ahead of their next proposed start date, which is December 6.

"I won't speak to our level of confidence because it is out of our hands, it is in the hands of the Government, and so we are at their behest at this point in time," said White.

"What we have done is to provide a very vigorous protocol for the return to play. We have provided the necessary guidance to our teams and we have put a plan in place to start," he said.

The PFJL will be solely responsible for the implementation of the new strategic business plan for the league, plus organising and managing the league and its affairs.

White, who is also the president of Premier League outfit Waterhouse, further added that PFJL has continued to monitor the clubs' operations while providing guidance where possible.

"We are continually developing on that plan and so we are trying to be as ready as we can for whatever eventuality happens," White said.

"So whether that is going to be December the sixth or a different date of January for that matter, we are continuing to plough forward with our plans because one thing for sure, we are focused on ensuring that we get the 2021 season up and running completed," he said.

"We are committed to that and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that we can deliver on that," White stated.
