Jermaine Brown made a losing start as coach of Molynes United after they went down 1-0 to Tivoli Gardens at Stadium East yesterday in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

However, the former Dunbeholden coach was upbeat despite the loss, as he believes better days lie ahead for Molynes, who are rooted at the foot of the JPL standings on four points.

Brown insists he sees positives from his first match but revealed that changes are required to get Molynes to perform better in the league while requesting that his players be responsible.

"It goes back to making players accountable," he declared. "They are working, and they are professionals. If you look at the stats, how many goals have you scored, how many successful passes have you had, and they would have played several games.

"So, I'll make them accountable, changing several things on the training pitch and working on the discipline.

"Then in January, we will look to get in some more quality because I think we just need some quality in and around the final third, and once we get that, I think we will be in for a good run," Brown continued.

Molynes started the better team, and Thorn Simpson had the first chance, but he fired straight at Tivoli's goalkeeper Diego Haughton.

Nickalia Fuller had two good chances for Tivoli but was first denied by Peter Harrison in goal before dragging another shot wide minutes later.

Jason Wright then squandered two great opportunities for Molynes at the end of the half, which finished goalless.

Immediately after the interval, Wright had another great chance but put his effort wide from 12 yards.

Tivoli took the lead through Odean Pennycook, who fired home a loose ball - lashed from the edge of the area.

Suejae McLean almost got Molynes back in the contest, but Haughton tipped his effort off the post.

Minutes later, Harrison pulled off an equally impressive save to deny Horatio Morgan and kept the score at 1-0.

"We were far more compact and organised, and it was good to see Thorn (Simpson) playing 90 minutes. If we can get him fit, and with Jason and others, I think we can have a good unit," Brown added.

Tivoli's coach, Jerome Waite, pointed out that they were slow to get into their stride as they were not equipped for the slippery conditions.

"The footing was a factor, and surprisingly, these players nowadays don't want to wear pegs, and at this level, when you have these adverse conditions, you have to have your footing. So today, some didn't do well in the situation," he said.

Tivoli stay third in the table with 17 points.
