After an unconvincing start to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season, Cavalier have shot up the standings with four straight wins in recent games, and the Rudolph Speid-coached team could close out the first round in second if they can get a big win against Humble Lion today at Stadium East at 3 p.m.

The game is the second of Cavalier's two outstanding matches. On Sunday they defeated Arnett Gardens 3-0 to climb to fourth, level on 24 points with third-place Tivoli Gardens and fifth place Arnett, and a win by four or more goals would push them into second.

The return of winger Dwayne Atkinson and defender Richard King has been a massive boost to the squad, and now Speid is expecting more consistent results from his team.

"It gives us more options. We were able to rest Shaniel (Thomas) and Jalmaro (Calvin) who have been carrying the brunt of the attack from August. So it is a big help from them," Speid commented.

"We were getting good results before they came, we won three. But they are such good players that they allow us to play a bit different, and with our other outstanding games we hope to go even higher (up the table)."

Humble Lion have started a new era under newly appointed coach Vassell Reynolds, who is in his second stint.

The club parted ways with former coach Andrew Price who was in charge for just over three seasons.

Although results were fairly good at the start of the season, with three wins, two draws and just one defeat, those results turned in the second half of the round.

The team went on a run of three successive defeats, when they decided to cut ties with Price. Since then they have had two losses and a win, and currently sit 10th in the table on 12 points.

"Our immediate aim is to steady the ship and to get consistent performances," Vassell commented recently. "The target is to hold down a top six position and we believe the team is more than capable."

In the second game Harbour View will continue to attempt to turn around their season around when they face in-form Dunbeholden at 6 p.m.

In the last five matches Harbour View have won just once, while Dunbeholden have four victories to their name over the same period, which makes the St Catherine club favourites to take three points today.

Dunbeholden are sixth on 21 points, and Harbour View 11th on 12 points.
