Mount Pleasant Football Academy returned to the top of the Jamaica Premier League yesterday, after a 1-0 win over Treasure Beach at Drax Hall.

Last season's JPL final hero and captain, Sue Lae McCalla, netted the game's only goal in the first minute of play, as the defending champions jumped to 32 points, two ahead of former leaders Cavalier in third and one more than Portmore United in second.

In the opening game of the double-header, Portmore defeated hosts Lime Hall 2-0, for a temporary lead at the top of the points standing.

It took the Philip Williams-coached Portmore 89 minutes to break the deadlock through striker Chevaughn Walsh.

Three minutes into second half added time, Shacquwell Henry added the insurance goal to lift Portmore to their sixth win in seven matches.

At the Ashenheim Stadium, Harbour View and Vere battled to a 0-0 draw with both teams getting good opportunities to steal the points.

Harbour View coach Ludlow Bernard was left bemoaning their woeful finishing, especially after Omar Thompson missed a sitter from point-blank range.

"I thought it was in. I was ready to jump out of my chair, only to realise he didn't get a good connection on it, and the defender was there to clear.

"It's disappointing when you don't convert some of these chances. We live to create these chances, and it's disappointing when you don't take them," Bernard commented.

Vere's coach, Linval Dixon, believes it was a good point for them to get on the road.

"We know Harbour View are desperate for points, like us. We are trying to push for the playoffs and games like these, we want to do well and get the maximum points, but it's a fair result," he said.

Vere stayed eighth with 19 points, while Harbour View remained 11th with 16.
