Cavalier clipped high-flying St James-based Montego Bay United (MBU) 1-0 in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), ending their four-match unbeaten run at Stadium East yesterday.

Orlando Russell scored the game's only goal a minute before half-time, as the Rudolph Speid-coached Cavalier registered their seventh win in a nine-match unbeaten streak.

"MoBay played extremely well for the first 30 minutes. It was like trying to catch raindrops," Speid said.

"They were slick moving the ball around. We had to adjust and went to our system that we know well, but our counters were fast and direct and in the end, I think we should have scored more," he added.

MBU had the game under total control for the first 30 minutes but failed to trouble a well-organised defence, with Cavalier even getting the first chance, but Dwayne Atkinson dragged his shot wide.

MBU's Brazilian midfielder Jean Claudio Ferreira tested Cavalier's goalkeeper Jaedine White with a low shot moments later.

However, Cavalier edged in front when they caught MBU on the break, and Atkinson played in Russell, who put them ahead with a well-taken goal from 12 yards.

Despite waves of attacks in the second half, MBU never really opened up their opponents, as Cavalier continued to snuff out any threats they offered.

Cavalier also had several promising counter-attacks but failed to capitalise on those breaks.

MBU's Brazilian coach, Neider Dos Santos, said despite all their possession, they were lacking with the final ball.

"We had most of the control of the game, more possession, but we failed with the last pass to create real chances.

"The second half, we played in their half and again failed to create real chances. The Cavalier defenders did a good job. They positioned themselves very well. We need to work on it to be sharper with the last pass," he said.
