The coveted Mortimer Geddes Trophy was today greeted by a vibrant and energetic atmosphere at the North Street-based Kingston College (KC) as persons gathered to celebrate victory at the 2024 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys Athletics Championships.

The all boys institution defended their title after five days of competition inside the National Stadium in St Andrew, which came to an end on Saturday.

The team amassed 335 points to lift the crown.

This morning saw athletes, students, teachers, parents and old boys from all over donning the purple signature colour in jubilation of high school track and field dominance.

Principal Dave Myrie said, “We got Old Boys around (the campus) from all over and we just want to thank them for their constant support of Kingston College.

Myrie also thanked the coaches and volunteers.

“I want to highlight Coach (Leford) Grant (Head Coach). Well done Leford, again. I want to thank our two captains… a big round of applause for leading the team… The biggest round of applause I want is to give to the team,” Myrie said.

Coach Grant, a KC old boy himself, said the victory was hard fought and also extended gratitude to all the players and stakeholders

Team co-captain Uri Lawrence, who is now in his final year thanked the gathering for the turnout.

“Everybody looking good and happy. I can say I am really happy for this title, the 35th. It has really been a journey for me… I look at each and everyone as family. I am really happy to be a part or this family,” Lawrence said.

There were chants of “Fortis, Fortis” a play on the first word of their school motto, resonating the space.

There was also the ceremonial cake cutting which brought the celebration to a close.

Their 35th win extends the margin for bragging rights for the school with the most champs title. They are followed by Calabar High 28, Jamaica College (JC) 22 and Wolmers Boys with 11.
