IT WAS sweet revenge for coach Ryan Reid last weekend as Glenmuir High School defeated Holmwood Technical 8-7 to capture the under-19 netball title at the Florida Netball Classics.

The two-day tournament was played over the Easter weekend at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheatre. After a 7-1 lead at half-time in Sunday's final, the Glenmuir team had to stave off a strong challenge from their opponents to hold on for a narrow one-point win.

Coach Reid was very elated.

"For us this was like redemption as the girls were pumped up for the occasion after losing their Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) rural under-19 title to Holmwood last December," Reid said.

"When we lost to Holmwood last December two of our main players were absent due to injuries and with a full strength team at the Classics the girls were eager and ready for the occasion," said Reid, who heaped praise on technical leader Annette Daley and other members of the support staff who made the win possible.

There was no joy for Holmwood at the tournament as they also lost the under-16 title to Denbigh High. Denbigh, who lost to Holmwood in the ISSA under-16 final, scored an easy 12-5 win over their opponents in the Florida final.

In the under-14 final, Gaynstead High got the better of Catherton 'B' of Great Britain 6-5.

Fresh off their Insport all island success over Bethabara Primary from Manchester a week earlier, St Patrick's Primary continued their winning run with a 10-5 victory over Mona Prep in the under-12 division.

Several local teams from prep, primary and high schools and teams from Great Britain, Barbados, Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago participated in the annual tournament.
