Lambert finds the net in San Antonio FC draw

TAMPA, Florida (CMC):

Jamaica midfielder Kevon Lambert was part of a second-half scoring spurt in which San Antonio FC (SAFC) drew with Oakland Roots 2-2 in the United Soccer League Championship on Saturday in the United States of America.

The 27-year-old from Clarendon gave SAFC the lead in a 20-minute period in the second half, when all four goals were scored in the match at Toyota Field in the city of San Antonio in the state of Texas - but Roots responded five minutes later to earn a share of the points.

The result meant that SAFC are fifth in the Western Conference standings on 13 points from three wins, two losses, and four draws, and Roots are 10th on eight points from two wins, five losses, and two draws.

It also meant that SAFC remained undefeated against Roots, leading the all-time series 3-0-3, and their 14 goals in nine matches top the Conference striking chart.

"A little disappointed that we didn't get the three points at the end of the day, but the guys put out a good performance," Lambert said in a post-match interview.

"I think we deserved more from this game, the way we fought from the first minute to the last, so a little disappointed, but proud of the way the guys fought [in this match]."

The match came alive after a scoreless first half when Miche-Naider Chery finished off a cross from Trayvone Reid in the 65th minute.

SAFC responded with two goals in the span of six minutes when Bura curled a ball into the box for Juan Agudelo to thump past Timothy Syrel between the uprights for Roots in the 73rd minute, and Lambert followed up when he headed a cross from Jorge Hernandez past the visitors' net-minder six minutes later.

It was the second goal for the club for Agudelo and Lambert - but Roots earned a penalty for a handled ball and forward Johnny Rodriguez stepped up to level the score again in the 84th minute.

SAFC return to the field for a United States Open Cup Round of 32 match on the road against Indy Eleven on Wednesday at the Michael A. Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"We know it's gonna be tough knowing that the game is just a few days away, so I think we just focus on recovery right now and take all the positives from [this match] and go into the game on Wednesday," he said.

"If we take the positives [from this match] and build on some of the things that we saw going into that game, I think we should be fine."

SAFC acquired Lambert on loan from Major League Soccer outfit Real Salt Lake in February.
