Waterhouse clip Molynes in KSAFA U-17 opener
Waterhouse's head coach Levi Monroe applauded his "inexperienced" players after they clipped Molynes United 2-1 in their opening game in Zone A of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Under-17 competition yesterday.
Waterhouse walked away with all three points after a brace from Duwayne Burgher secured a come-from-behind victory at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium at Drewsland. Daniel Grant scored Molynes United's solo effort.
"Basically, in this U-17 competition, most of the players on the team are in the U-15 team and they basically played pretty well given their inexperience," Monroe said. "The aim for us right now is to get to the knockout stage. Given the talent that we have, the aim is to get to the knockout stage and then we'll take it from there."
Molynes took the lead early in the first half when a delivery from a corner found an unmarked Grant in the box.
Waterhouse rallied and pulled level in the 29th minute. A handball in the box gave the hosts a penalty and Burgher made no mistake from the spot, slotting past the diving Molynes goalkeeper.
He would bag his brace in the second half. With some quick footwork, Burgher got by his marker just on top of the box and fired home to secure the win for Waterhouse.
Tate Robinson, head coach of Molynes United, said despite the opening loss, he remains positive about their chances of advancing to the knockout round.
"We must go back to the drawing board and get the three points from the next game and then we'll assess it from there. We've played the danger team from the group now, and we didn't get the result we wanted but now we must go out and get the maximum points from the other games," Robinson said.
For their next game, Waterhouse will travel to Pembroke Hall FC while Molynes will take on hosts Cooreville Gardens.
