Molynes United FC's head coach Jermaine Thomas was a passionate figure in his post-match interview on Sunday, after Molynes United fell 3-1 to Vere Phoenix United in their opening game of the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football competition.

Molynes United could not contain the attacking prowess of Vere Phoenix who got their first win of the season, bouncing back from their 4-1 defeat to Montego Bay United the previous week.

However, Thomas felt this was a game his team should have won and has demanded a better showing from his senior players for the rest of the season.

He felt his team's control of the game and the chances they created were deserving of a better result at the end.

"There were a lot of chances, there were a lot," Thomas lamented. "But I'm expecting more from our players, these guys are our senior players in the league and I'm expecting them to know when to step up and start performing.

"You would have seen it, we dominated for a large portion of the game. ,We were there and we controlled the game. But when we created we were not scoring, and if you're not scoring at this level then you're gonna be in trouble, hence 3-1."

Thomas said after a poor performance in the second half, Molynes had stepped up in the second half and created several opportunities, which could have won them the game.

However, a wasteful time at the office saw the team squander their opportunities and allowed Vere Phoenix to walk home with all three points.

"We were poor in front of goal. We were very poor and created some easy ones. I thought we played a poor first half. In the second half we came out, created some like A-B-C chances; really, really easy chances and we never capitalised on them." he stated.

"I think as a unit we should have done way better. We were a little bit slow to the second and third balls and hence I thought we allowed them to play. We were backing off too deep and it really caused a lot of space in the first half, which they capitalised on."

The result means Molynes sit 12th in the league standings without a point. Their next assignment will be an away fixture against Harbour View FC on Sunday, September 29.
