Tivoli High School beat Wolmer's Boys' 4-2 in an exciting ISSA Manning Cup football match at Tivoli High School yesterday to claim top spot in Zone E at the end of the first round.

The home team was in fine form as they brought an end to Wolmer's Boys'unbeaten record in this season's competition.

The win was also revenge for the West Kingston-based team who had been defeated by the Wolmerians 4-2 when the teams met earlier in the season.

Tivoli's head coach Christopher Nicholas said he was proud of his team's performance as he knew yesterday's fixture would be a difficult day out against a tough opponent.

However, he was confident they would have gotten all three points, having already promised his team would win after their away defeat against yesterday's opponents.

"I'm feeling proud," he said. "I'm feeling proud because these boys came out and gave their best effort and fought all the way to the end," he said.

"We knew Wolmer's was not going to be an easy game because we both want to finish on top. They hadn't lost a game in the round and we had only lost one so we knew it was going to be a tough game," Nicholas added.

Ryan-Oneil Francis and Kaqummarie McKoy were the stars of the show for Tivoli as the pair grabbed a brace each. Francis opened the scoring in the 12th minute before McKoy added his name to scoresheet in the 23rd minute. McKoy would return for his double minutes after the hour mark when he finished past an onrushing goalkeeper, and Francis would secure the win, heading home into an empty net in the 75th minute.

Bryce Fletcher in 49th minute and a penalty from Daniel Scarlett in the 82nd minute proved otherwise to be consolation goals for the Wolmerians.

The win meant Tivoli climbed to 27 points from 10 games, two ahead of Wolmer's who finished second in Zone E on 25.
