KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):

ATTACKING MIDFIELDER Tyreek Magee has been belatedly called up to the Reggae Boyz squad as Jamaica gears up for their two-match friendly series against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex and on Sunday at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Magee, who recently returned to the island after a two-year stint with the Colorado Switchbacks, has been showcasing his skills with Vere United in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL). His inclusion comes on the heels of a 2-1 defeat by defending champions Cavalier on Monday.

Magee has had a tough go at international club football.

Understood to be a gifted midfielder, Magee's first stint outside of Jamaica was with Belgian outfit KAS Eupen, where he stayed for four years. In all that time, Magee only had seven appearances for the club.

A move to the Switchbacks seemed to have revived his career, the midfielder earning 42 caps for the United Soccer League outfit. His performances caught the eye of the Reggae Boyz coach, who called him to a pair of Concacaf Group B games in October of 2024, and again in November.

There had been rumours since those games that Magee would be on the move again, initially, Mount Pleasant Academy being the target.

However, Magee turned out for Vere, the club where his Phoenix Sports Management agent, Craig Butler, operates as the technical director.

The Reggae Boyz squad is made up of solely local talent because the pair of friendlies does not fall in an international window.

Defending champions Cavalier and current league leaders Mount Pleasant have contributed a combined 15 players to the roster, while Montego Bay United, who are third in the league, have players on both squads.
