Tight security for After-Champs parties
Both the police and promoters are confident that patrons of the various events to be held after the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championship will be safe because of the tight security plans they have put in place.
According to the Commander of Area Four, SSP Terrence Bent, the concern for the safety of persons attending the event has resulted in the decision to beef up police presence in the Corporate Area today.
“There will be a heightened number of police to deal with the additional crowds between the hours of 4 p.m. and 2 a.m.,” said Bent.
Bent also encouraged persons attending the after Champs parties to have a designated driver to avoid accidents.
According to Bent, the police will be working closely with the promoters of the three events that are slated to be held after the athletic event.
Promoter for Up To The Line, Michael Powell, says there is a collaborative effort between himself and the police to ensure that there is no violence at his event.
“We will be working closely with the police and a security company, so we are fully prepared to deal with any incidents,” he said.
Measures have also been put in by Powell’s team to ensure that there will be no underage drinking at his event. He said persons will need to present IDs in order to get liquor at the bar.
In addition to Powell's event, hard-hitting lyricist Masicka is the headline act for Traxx After Champs Party which will be at Kabana in Half-Way Tree and singer Denyque is the main act for After Champs Jersey Party, which will be held at Barbican Beach in St Andrew.
