Among the bevy of dancehall artistes rising from the parish of Montego Bay is one female with a goal. She simply wants to steal the spotlight. Her given name is Moyann Montique, but she goes by just 'Moyann'.

The release of her debut single, Netflixxx and Chill, recorded on the 'Netflixxx' rhythm created by Grammy award-winning producer DJ Frass, showed the flirtatious side to Moyann, who he says she is generally a quiet girl.

"It depends on the mood you catch her in. Depending on the rhythm, she will give a variety of music, and she also catches on fast and communicates when she nuh like something and take advice when given to her," DJ Frass said.

The singjay, who is currently managed by DJ Frass, served up sexy visuals for Netflixxx and Chill in July, garnering more than 150,000 views on YouTube, and was featured in Spotify's Top Dancehall playlist.

Despite its success, the singjay did not rush into creating another song. Instead, Moyann said: "I have been taking the time to properly decide the direction I wanted my music to take."

Moyann also told THE WEEKEND STAR that she does not only want to create sexy, raunchy dancehall-type music but clean, socially conscious tracks.

Moyann recently took a leave of absence from studying shipping and logistics science at the Caribbean Maritime University (formerly Caribbean Maritime Institute) to pursue a career in music. She understands that to the traditional person, it might seem like an unwise idea, but she says: "I plan to complete my studies, but I knew I could not focus on both at the same time. It will happen in time."

Her newest single, ABC 123, drops on Friday on all major digital platforms. She said that it is a song that speaks to women 'wising' up, and she describes the lyrics, which were co-written by reggae singer Zagga, as "realistic".

"This song goes back to basics. You see it every day, a man trying to catch woman with money and cars, but we are more empowered," she said.
