On the eighth day of Christmas, G Whizz made the holidays a little brighter for vendors and shoppers alike after he played secret Santa in the streets of downtown Kingston.

Reggae/dancehall entertainer G Whizz, whose given name is Garland Rowe, was inspired to choose a few persons doing their Christmas market shopping and pay for their goods.

G Whizz shared the idea with his friends at First Union Financial Group that upon hearing it, donated cash towards the execution.

"Every dollar counts in these times ... if I can go to a stall or shop, walk up to a random person purchasing groceries and pay for it, I am sure it will not only make a difference, but put a smile on their face," G Whizz said.

He told The STAR that he intended for the gift-giving to be anonymous and random, but knew that there would be some challenges in doing so.

Downtown Kingston is a familiar place for the entertainer, who says it is where he prefers to buy ground provisions.

He also shot the video for his debut single, Life, in and around Coronation Market exactly 10 years ago.

"The place brings back a lot of memories. Growing up, my mother always shopped at the market, and now I take my wife here to do the same," he said.

The singer started on Heywood Street, where his eye caught a mother and her son purchasing potatoes and carrots outside the Queens Market.

G Whizz asked the woman, "What is Christmas to you? What foods will you be preparing for the holiday?"

Christmas, he said, "means a time of family for me, spending time with them drinking and eating some good food, a wide variety of meat."

The entertainer revealed that this holiday will be another one spent away from his family, as on Christmas Day he will leave for the US, where he will spend three weeks.

He expressed that he will miss the leftover cooking of ham for breakfast, ham fried rice and ackee with a little ham in it - a regular thing for his family to do.

"Only Christmas time I indulge in having a little ham," he said.

He was then drawn to Miss Brown's stall on the corner of Heywood and Princess streets that had a few female shoppers waiting on sorrel to be packaged.

"I am a lover of sorrel, especially when it has a little rum in it," he said as he engaged the customers about making the season's preferred drink.

As G Whizz announced that he was paying for their sorrel, one of the women increased her order, but Miss Brown ensured the bill was fair to the deejay.

Another woman, who gave her name as Zoya Laman exclaimed, "God bless you, G Whizz!. It is a blessing that I left home to come to the market today."

G Whizz spent a total of $6,000 with Miss Brown.

He also circled a few wholesales on West Queen Street and paid for groceries of wholesale shoppers.

By the time the entertainer was finished, he had spent a little over $20,000.
