There was much hilarity at Friday's staging of the highly anticipated RJRGLEANER Cross Country Invasion stop at Ken's Wildlflower Entertainment Hub in Portmore, St Catherine, when dancehall artiste Macka Diamond officially debuted her 'Granny' persona on stage.

And Macka, who had prepped the release of her alter ego with a series of teasers, and had wiped her Instagram pages clean, is ecstatic at the response to Granny.

An elated Mackadocious (the alter ego's name), whose age has long been a bone of contention, told The STAR: "She (Granny) was well received. It was fun for the people. Everything was too serious, so Granny add fun to the game."

Granny was dressed the part, complete with a physical transformation, which included buttocks and breast enhancements. With a headscarf tied securely under her chin, a new wig, a walking stick, sensible shoes, and more clothes than Macka would normally wear on stage, Granny was born.

Performing catalogue songs like Bun Him and Cucumber, Granny drew great response from an all-too-eager crowd.

Social media

This reaction was not exactly a surprise, however, because her video on social media introducing Granny to the world, quickly racked up thousands of views and close to 700 comments, many of which were positive. A fan who calls herself Darkskinqueen27, gushed: "Noooo hahah trust I needed this omg the end when you a walk away and seh you name omg played it like 20 times."

'The end' refers to the video which Macka signs off in a singsong tone, "A Mackadocious!"

Macka, in a note to her followers, had stated: "After dropping so much tears, I've come to one conclusion, and I hope you all feel better now. I'll be dressing and looking like what you all saying. Now I look my age, all stage show still a go get shell."

Last January, unknown persons went online and tampered with Macka's bio, changing her age to 77 and then to 119.

She told The STAR: "Those people are fake pages and bad mind artistes set them up, so once I claim it, it will shut them up."

Meanwhile, quizzed about the preparation challenge for this Granny show, Macka admitted that it's "technical".

"Well it kinda weird because I never, ever dress old, plus I'm not around any old people to borrow from, so the preparation is kinda technical, but me manage to pull it off," she said proudly. And although Granny seems to be a hit, Macka is not about to exploit her.

"She will be for special events and my original will remain too. So who waan Granny pay extra. I sure will take it overseas. I have people waan pay Granny for ads. It's a good look and with my Cucumber video trending and producers calling, it's even better," Macka said.
