Who is Jae XO?
Jae XO is a vibrant, fun, exciting yet chill, music-oriented person. You can be sure to reason things out with her because she loves conversation. Her happy place is in the studio, meditating on music.
Who were your musical inspirations growing up?
Growing up, I looked up to international R&B artistes like Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Kenny Rogers. Their songs really resonated with me. Locally, hands down it's Worl' Boss Vybz Kartel. I have always loved and appreciated female dancehall artistes Spice and Lady Saw. I love how they performed and delivered with confidence.
Which one of your songs always gets you energised?
Definitely Chaser and Rum. When people first meet me, I'm usually laid back so Chaser and Rum shows a different side to me. The track has a summer vibe.
What are your thoughts about the female dancehall artistes who are coming to the fore and getting their shine? How has the culture changed in that aspect?
I'm happy that women are knocking down doors and walking into the spotlight. Back in the day, the entertainment industry was male-dominated, so to see the women stepping up to the plate, I love that!
Have you ever done any DIY outfits for yourself?
I have! I'm a big fan of do-it-yourself projects. One time, I turned a sweater into a crop top and wore it with a bikini top. If I could make one outfit for myself, I would make a shorts jumpsuit.
If you weren't pursuing music, what career would you be in?
I would be pursuing a media career actually; media in television.
If you're not feeling a man's energy or feeling the chemistry between you and a man you're dating, how do you let him down?
If I'm not feeling a man's energy or feeling the chemistry, I keep it real without going out of my way to intentionally hurt his feelings. If you're nice with them, they will think you still want them. So, I tell them straight. I don't think this is working out.
