Upcoming dancehall artiste Chad Hype is poised to continue the musical legacy started by his father, 1990s deejay Flourgon, by making his own mark in the music industry. The Badman House Party singer also has his own record label 300 Milli Entertainnment and admitted that being in his father's presence was enough to convince him to do music.

"After being around my dad and my uncle Red Dragon (now deceased) and just watching my dad vibing and freestyling a song and after hearing the finished product, that was amazing. After watching him perform the song live and how he engaged his audience and enjoyed it, I said, 'Yes, I love it and I decided to do music professionally,'" he shared.

However, the youngster bided his time, opting to complete his secondary education before doing music full-time. "I pursued it after I graduated from Calabar High School, since I didn't want to disturb my academics and would have more time to focus on my music pursuit," he told THE STAR.

Chad Hype recalled that his first musical effort was a mixture of genres. " Drop It was my first single, produced by Jahvinille Production, mixed and mastered by Serge Tsai of Platinum Sound Records. It's dancehall and R&B infused. The video was shot in Long Island and Manhattan. It was aired on all local TV stations and a few radio stations here in Jamaica. It was also aired on a lot of underground radio stations in the US such a Royal Radio," he disclosed.

Added pressures

The young entertainer reasoned that being the son of a legendary musician has added pressures. "Growing up with a celebrity father, persons' expectations of you are more. They expect discipline, excellence in school, my swag had always been up since birth and my friends always expect me to have money," he remarked.

He also revealed that he has to work just as hard as every other upcoming musician to make it.

"Me being the son of Flourgon does not give me an advantage in music. I had to learn from scratch on my own all areas of music practical and theory. So I have to work even harder since he set the barrier so high. I now have to exceed him which amounts to a lot of hard work and dedication. You have to love music on its own and dedicate yourself to it."

"I'm currently in the studio with my dad cooking up something brand new for the ladies who are my number one fans. Daddy said I remind him so much of himself - like a mirror image. So it's so much easier for us to work together. He said in his time the girls would go wild for him but now it's Chad Hype the girls asking him for. So look out for our collaboration coming soon," he added.
