Roots reggae singer Delroy ‘Wormbass’ Nevin is hoping that his love ballad, Sunshine, which is to be released ahead of Mother’s Day celebrations, will reignite love in faltering relationships.

The singer-musician said he is longing to see a return to the days when people weren’t afraid to say, ‘I love you’, and he said that it is that feeling that has inspired the lyrics on the song.

“I am hoping that this song will bring back the kind of love that we grow up with. The type of love that I saw my mom and dad show each other,” said Wormbass. “In this time, it’s like persons are afraid to express their love for each other. Persons are afraid to say I love you.”

“This song, I believe, will immediately reminds its listeners what it feels like to be in love and expressing it,” added Wormbass. According to Wormbass, the song, which was produced by himself and Michael Jacas, is not about sexual intercourse, but speaks about real love, which is what the world needs now.

“I am hoping that this message will reach the four corners of the earth, and this will come right in time for Mother’s Day,” the entertainer said.

Wormbass, who spent his early years in Johns Town, St Thomas, found his singing voice when he was eight years old, when he became the lead singer on the youth band at the community’s Methodist Church.

Several years later, Wormbass taught himself how to play the bass guitar, which became the launching pad for him to become a household name on the local hotel circuit. In 1990, Wormbass got the opportunity to travel to Japan, where he spent a year performing. A year later, he travelled to Cancun, Mexico, where he spent another eight months performing as a member of the Original Heat Band.

The band later changed its name to Blaze Band and became Beenie Man’s backing band. They went on to tour with the Grammy-winning entertainer for the next nine years. Wormbass, who was by then quite accomplished in music, branched off into artiste management before transforming himself into a reggae singer.

In addition to promoting Sunshine, Wormbass is also putting tracks together for an album, which he hopes to release later this year.
