Restaurant seeks experienced chef
Everyone knows that a good chef is the key to any restaurant. As such, the operators of any food establishment must find a chef who finds joy in cooking great meals for all. Does this sound like you? Well, listen up!
A downtown Kingston-based establishment is currently on the lookout for a versatile chef who can produce an array of dishes.
THE STAR, in this week's Jobs and Carrers is again trying to match employers and employees. After searching The Gleaner Classifieds for job vacancies, our news team connected with the 38-year-old Janet Cunningham, proprietor of a restaurant that appears to be going in a new direction with its offerings.
"It is located right below the hospital, KPH (Kingston Public Hospital)," the proprietor began. "It is a restaurant that cooks local and also Chinese food."
The entity's management team is now tasked with finding an "experienced chef and bartender", the owner said.
a little bit of everything
"I want somebody that can do a little bit of everything. Not only local, but everything!" she said. "Chinese, Italian, once you put something new on the board, it sells well apart from the ones that they (customers) know about. I must get somebody, that is versatile. I don't want somebody with just theory either. I need somebody that has experience in a commercial restaurant. A restaurant is based on the staff. If they come with theory alone, the book-work alone, they only have the certificate, but don't have the skill."
The businesswoman said her requirements for her potential employee are pretty simple. Candidates may not need any sort of qualifications per se, but must be have roughly 10 to15 year experience.
"The schooling doesn't really matter because you don't have to go to school to know about cooking. I just prefer the practical persons from 35 up until 55 (years old)," she explained. "It is good when they have customer service experience, too. If the chef makes a mistake, the chef should be able to go out front and talk to a customer. After that, a customer is likely to come back even after a problem."
