Small company seeks gardeners
A small company requires a few gardeners who are competent. If you enjoy practical work, then take a closer look at this particular vacancy.
THE STAR, in its Jobs & Careers feature, has yet again made an attempt to connect employers with potential employees. After searching The Gleaner classifieds for job postings this week, our news team connected with the proprietor from Soljah Callaloo, a Spanish Town, St Catherine-based food-processing entity, who wished to remain unnamed.
"We are in the early stages of the business, so it's really land preparation that is happening now," he began. "As time goes along, we are going to need more manpower."
The classified advertisement posted by the entity offered a job to "experienced gardeners for a spinach and callaloo farm in a full-time permanent emloyment with competitive pay". The ad further informed that persons should expect to work from "Monday to Fridays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.".
The employer told our news team about who he deems to be desirable candidates.
"Right now, as we speak, we have about two people with about two more that we need to come in," the proprietor explained. "But we really are trying to get experienced people, because they have to have the know-how and be hard-working."
The proprietor told THE STAR that there are not any set entry requirements per se, but stressed that interested parties ought to be hard-working.
"It's basically a small farm really," he said. "So my expectations are people with the know-how who can maintain and manage a farm. You must be hard-working because you tend to deal with the sun a lot."
Come prepared to show just how industrious you are. "Preferably, I need persons with over five years experience," the business operator said. "The number of years is not really much of a requirement as opposed to the know-how. You can be in it for five years and a man in it for a year and he has the better knowledge in comparison to the man in it for five."
