J'can woman held in T&T child-beating saga
The Trinidad police have arrested a Jamaican woman and her Trinidadian common-law husband after a video went viral of a toddler being viciously beaten by the latter in her presence.
According to www.tv6tnt.com, the male, 32, and the 21-year-old woman were held in connection with the abuse of the minor. The video was aired on Trinidadian television on Wednesday.
The two were held yesterday around 1:25 p.m. in a room on the second floor of an apartment building.
Police had the two-storey apartment building under surveillance. The officers raided the apartment after a male matching the description of one of the suspects was seen exiting a door.
Both suspects are in custody at the San Fernando Police Station for subsequent transfer to the Child Protection Unit of the Northern Division.
Meanwhile, the investigation was launched after a video circulating on social media showed a child being struck repeatedly by a man, who is attempting to get her to drink a white substance believed to have been milk. In one instance, the infant falls face-down on the floor after the man struck her on the back of her head. The man also pulls the child up by her hair.
