Voters show off on social media

Several voters showed off on social media yesterday after casting their ballots. Numerous posts with purple inked fingers flooded Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram yesterday shortly after the polls were opened across the island.

Entrepreneur extraordinaire, Yaneek Page, was among the people who posted their inked fingers to social media.

EduFocal founder, Gordon Swaby, travelled back to his home parish, Manchester from as early as yesterday to exercise his right to vote.

Social advocate and 2012 Miss Jamaica Festival Queen, Kemesha Kelly, also posted her inked finger along with her mother's to Twitter after casting her ballot.

Popular pageant queen, Miss Jamaica Universe 2014, Kaci Fennell also posted her inked finger to social media and commented about the ease of the voting process.

As the ballots that were cast from as early as 7 a.m. began being counted, persons from the various social media platforms expressed shock at the loss of several seats by the People's National Party (PNP) using memes and gifs.

The PNP's decision not to debate, frustration with the PNP and the controversy with Holness' house were pinpointed as the reasons for the outgoing Government's loss.

"The arrogance of the PNP by not giving us a debate has affected them!" said one Facebook user.

Supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party basked in their party's victory with celebratory posts. "Green like money. Green like grass. Green like people arm," was posted to Twitter by social media comedian Rohan 'Quite' Perry.

Although disappointed with the results, supporters of the PNP congratulated the JLP and asked for the country to unify behind the new Government.

"People have spoken. Time for renewal. The word is love," a PNP supporter posted on Twitter.
