Man killed over charger - 17-year-old lover accused of committing act

A 17-year-old girl is now in police custody facing murder charges after she is alleged to have stabbed and killed her lover during a dispute over the use of a phone charger.

The dead man has been identified as 23-year old Akeem Berbick, a farmer of Fowler Town in Alexandria, St Ann.

According to head of the St Ann police, Superintendent Gary Francis, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.

"The information is that they had a dispute over the use of a charger, and it ended where the man was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries Thursday at the Alexandria hospital. The woman is in custody. She has not yet been charged, but the investigation is on, and at the end, she will be charged for the murder," Francis said.

Violent crimes

The teen's identity is currently being withheld.

This follows Wednesday's incident in Runaway Bay, in which a woman is alleged to have stabbed and killed a man in the presence of police officers. Reports on that incident are that the two had engaged in a sexual transaction at a cost of $3,000, following which the man brandished a knife and took back his money. The enraged woman then attacked the man.

In light of the spate of violent crimes being committed in the parish, Francis said it underpins the nation's inability to properly resolve conflicts, and the high levels of aggression the people possess.

"What we're seeing now is an aggression, and if we don't go back to our primary socialisation and teach persons how to treat life and how to deal with things, then we will just have more and more of this," Francis said.
