Freak accident leaves woman dead

Friends and family members of Joan Robinson were plunged into mourning following a freak accident which claimed the life of the 56-year-old woman.

While sweeping her yard at approximately 7 a.m. yesterday in the district of Brompton, St Elizabeth, Robinson was mowed down by a car which got of control, veered off the road, slammed into a utility pole, a tree and burst through a fence, before hitting Robinson.

Sandra Walters, the cousin of the deceased told THE STAR that the family members are shaken up by the incident.

"Her mother is taking it very hard because is she and her mother live. We have lost two family members in succession," she said.

What is even more heartbreaking is that Robinson is the third relative to have died in recent times.

Making an appeal

"We had a uncle that died November and another uncle April gone. To lose her now is really hard on the family," Walters said.

She described Robinson as someone who was everybody's friend in the community and someone who gave her services selflessly.

"She was a community person. For years she was at the Brompton Basic School helping up there," Walters said.

And following the tragic incident, Walters is making an appeal to drivers, especially in this party season.

"Do not drink and drive. If you feel like you want to sleep, do not go around the steering because it could cost the life of somebody that is innocent," she said.

The occupants of the Toyota motor car, who were reportedly on their way home after attending a party, walked away from the incident injury free. However, they were taken into custody by the police.
