Suspected thief held with 13 bags of oranges

The Guys Hill police in St Catherine have arrested one man on suspicion of praedial larceny, after he was held yesterday with 13 bags of oranges valued at $65,000.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. at the Tradewinds Orchard along the New Works main road. Acting on information, a team of police personnel intercepted a Nissan motor car along the roadway. One man reportedly fled from the scene, but the other was held by the police. Checks revealed the 13 bags filled with oranges.

The vehicle was seized along with the citrus fruits, which were taken to the police station. The man is expected to be formally charged.
