Former PNP caretaker charged with buggery granted bail

Errol Bascoe, the former People's National Party (PNP) caretaker for St Mary Western who stepped down following damning allegations against him, was granted bail when he appeared before the parish court on Tuesday.

The condition was set at $600,000 and the accused was ordered to surrender his travel documents. He was also advised to make regular reports to the police.

Bascoe was charged with buggery by the St Mary police after accusations were levied against him by his accuser, whom is a  23-year-old man.

Basoce's lawyer, Oswest Senior-Smith, has since confirmed he is maintaining his innocence, claiming there are inconsistencies in the statement given by the accuser.

The discrepancies, according to the attorney, centre's around a claimed report by the investigating officer, which was made public on Social Media. He argued that the report and the actual statement given by the virtual complainant reflect huge differences.

Bascoe, who is also the principal of the Tacky High School in St Mary, is to return to court on May 14, 2024.
