The operations of the Manchioneal Police Station in Portland have been temporarily relocated to the Manchioneal All Age School arising from the effects of Hurricane Beryl.

The station developed a leaky roof and saw water seeping through window panes due to heavy rains and gusty winds.

The situation was further compounded by a sea surge, which flooded the main thoroughfare and the station yard.

The station, which is located near the coastline, was seemingly under threat from a storm surge and dangerous windy conditions, which influenced the decision to relocate to a place of safety until normal weather conditions return.

Additionally, a group of Haitians being held at the station benefited from the relocation exercise.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Port Antonio  Paul Thompson said that up to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, approximately 150 people including children were in disaster shelters across the parish.
