The Old Harbour Road Church of Prophecy in St Catherine hosted its annual back-to-school fair on Saturday, which saw more than 400 children in attendance.

Pastor Junior Hedlam said the church will continue its community outreach by assisting with school supplies for those in need.

"We operate within the community, and in addition to the spiritual gifts, people have real needs, and the back-to-school activities are our way to assist them," Hedlam said. Youth leader at the church, Germaine Bethune, added, "We continue to identify the needs of persons within the space that we operate, and it is pleasing that the church, in collaboration with the outreach ministries, makes it possible."

Chandricka Willis said the event was a"God send" as without it, several students would have been without the required books to start the school year in a few weeks time. Samantha Brown expressed joy as she received her child's textbooks.

"This is a true blessing as, trust me, there was no money to get these books, so it is really appreciated," Brown said. In addition to books, children received pencils and backpacks, and got dental check-ups.

This year's staging of the fair was expanded to the entire parish, as previously it was held for only members of the church.
