Two in court for KFC brawl
A St James man who reportedly got into a fight with security personnel at a fast-food restaurant in Montego Bay is booked to stand trial in the St James Parish Court on November 20.
Devon Malcolm, who is charged with assault, had his bail extended when he appeared before presiding Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton on Wednesday. Malcolm is also a complainant in the case against Shevoy Harrison, a security officer who is charged with assault arising from the same incident. Harrison will stand trial on November 6. His bail was also extended on Wednesday.
Allegations are that on May 9, Malcolm was at a KFC outlet in downtown Montego Bay when he began to behave in a boisterous manner. A female security guard spoke to him and tried to calm him down, but he took out a ratchet knife and pointed it at her, following which she used an iron pipe to defend herself. Harrison intervened and, during the ensuing brawl, Malcolm's hand was broken. The police were summoned and Malcolm and Harrison were both subsequently arrested and charged.
During Wednesday's proceedings, Malcolm's attorney Martyn Thomas asked for full disclosure of all documents relating to both cases.
"Very well, disclosure is to be made with respect of this matter, and also a subpoena is ordered for the witnesses for November 20, 2024," Fairclough-Hylton replied to the request.
