Man smashes babymother’s window

A Corporate Area man admitted to removing and damaging windows of a home where his babymother resides.

The defendant, 26-year-old Kevin Williams, explained to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court why he damaged his babymother's property.

"I was trying to get to my son," Williams told the court. However, Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell pressed him as to why he took such measures.

"The house was burning down? You heard him in there bawling out for murder?" she asked.

Williams clarified that he believed his son was alone inside, though he admitted to seeing the child's mother outside in the yard during the incident. When asked if he had any expertise in breaking windows, the accused denied being a thief or a construction worker.

"No," he replied, to which Burrell remarked, "You know how to break in people's houses."

Williams pleaded guilty to charges of malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The child's mother was present in court and sought $80,000 in restitution to cover the damage to a laptop and keyboard. When asked if he had brought any money, Williams responded, "I have $5,000, Your Honour." The accused, who works as a call centre representative, expressed willingness to either replace the damaged items or repay the complainant during his next pay cycle. Sentencing has been postponed until January 20, 2025.

"Bad behaviour is expensive," Burrell chided.
