Los Angeles-based Aleca King has spent most of her adult years travelling the world as a flight attendant.

Last year when she landed in Jamaica for what was originally supposed to be a two-day trip, she spent two months and has fallen in love with 'Jamrock'. As a result, the US-born King, who is also a reggae singer, said that in a few months she will be ditching her flight attendant duties, pack her bags, and return to Jamaica. She said she is looking forward to soaking up the culture, while continuing on her musical journey.

"I was just thrilled by how everyone was just so free spirited. They wear what they want, and they have a swag like no other. In Jamaica, I can make a friend every five minutes, but in Los Angeles I don't have any friends at all. I remember being in downtown Kingston and seeing persons wearing hand towels on their heads like Egyptians gods. I feel like Jamaica just welcomes me home, and everyone is so nice to me there. It's just a different vibes," King said.

Although heavily concerned by the nation's crime rate, King said her love for the island is undaunted.

"When I saw Jamaica, I didn't know there was a place like this, and I have been all over the world. There is something so magical about it. We need to stand up right now, because the guns and drugs can't come in like that. There is no room for it, and it's not okay. I am very concerned about the crime rate and I am hoping that I can change that, even if it's through music and good energy. Jamaica is a marvellous place to be. Also I have learnt that nything can happen anywhere. Just look at what is happening in California with the fire now," King said.

As wildfires ravage through sections of California, claiming lives and homes, King said she is relieved to be safe, but said her heart is reeling for those affected.

"I know what it feels like to lose everything. Little over 20 years ago, I moved from Washington, DC to Los Angeles and I shipped my car with my belongings inside. When I got the car, everything was stolen. For the first week I wore one outfit, and then I met a guy who gave me two bags of clothes. I will never ever forget that feeling, because there is something about when you have zero and someone gives to you, it means so much," she said.

"This fire brings about a unity like no other. There are no rich or poor in this, as everyone is affected. Mexico comes to assist, even after what America said to them. We are seeing a side of LA that we have never seen," King added.

In addition to being a flight attendant, King has been an actress, singer and model. She is also known for songs like We Only Want Peace, Irie Vibez and Cruising Altitude.
