Wall climber arrested after firearm found in bag
A Corporate Area resident was arrested on January 18, after his action of climbing a wall led police to a gun and ammunition find.
Andre Whyte, 31, a labourer of George's Close, Waltham Park Road, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition following an incident in the community. Reports from the Half-Way Tree police are that at 7 a.m., the lawmen conducted an operation in the community when Whyte was seen climbing over a wall at the rear of a premises. He was instructed by the team to desist, but he disobeyed and continued making his way over the wall.
He was subsequently accosted and the surroundings searched. One Daewoo rifle with a magazine affixed containing 11 5.56 rounds was found in a black bag in a blue plastic drum where Whyte had initially climbed over the wall. He was arrested and later charged following a question-and-answer session.
His court date has not been finalised.
