Man arrested after allegedly shooting himself
Detectives assigned to the St Mary Police Division have laid firearm charges against a resident of the parish following an incident last Friday.
Damarie Brown, 27, otherwise called 'Demmey', of River Road, Gayle, has been charged with discharge of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and creating public mischief. Reports from the Gayle police are that at 11 a.m., Brown filed a report claiming that while he was at a river, he was confronted and shot by two masked men, who then fled the area on foot. Brown was taken to the hospital for treatment and was subsequently released.
However, further investigations led lawmen to believe that Brown had accidentally shot himself. A search of his premises revealed a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing one round. Brown was taken into custody and later charged following a question-and-answer session. His court date is being finalised.
