Belief spurs Nation's WI dreams

Jamaica women all-rounder Chedean Nation has credited hard work, greater belief in her abilities, and being more experienced and wiser as the reasons behind her recall to the West Indies Women team.

Nation, who helped Jamaica reach the final of the recent regional women tournament in Trinidad and Tobago, was recalled after being out for six years.

"When I was with the team before, I did not perform as well as I would like," said Nation, who left the island for St Lucia, where the West Indies will be preparing for a tour of Pakistan later this month.

"Things, however, are different now. I am older, wiser, patient, and understand my game a lot better."

Nation, who bats in the middle order, explained that while in Trinidad, she made a 50, and couple of 40s, along with the wickets she took, which encouraged the selectors to choose her.

"It was a fairly good tournament for me," she assessed.

"Heading into to it, I had set myself some goals, and one of them was to perform so as to earn a recall to the West Indies team."

The 28-year-old also believes she is a more complete all-rounder.

"I believe I am a true all-rounder now," she said. "Earlier on, I was more focused on my bowling, and not batting, but I have come to realise that I was short-changing myself, and that I can bat well."

She added: "My next move is to do well in the two practice matches we are scheduled to have before the Pakistan series, and show the selectors what I am capable of."

Nation is one of three Jamaicans on the West Indies team, with the others being new captain Stafanie Taylor and Vanessa Watts.
