SVL Diamond Mile horses blaze exercise track

HORSES preparing for Saturday's Supreme Ventures Limited $13.5m Diamond Mile at Caymanas Park got in their final speed gallops at the weekend, culminating in Superstakes winner FRANFIELD blazing a flat five and a half furlongs in 1:06.2 yesterday morning.

On Saturday, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's 2000 Guineas winner ALI BABA also galloped a flat five and a half, posting 1:07.0 for his last speed prep.

Dethroned two-time Superstakes winner TYPEWRITER also galloped on Saturday, clocking 1:17.4 for six furlongs. TIMEFORARMS, a rank outsider for the Diamond Mile, which boasts the richest purse in the English-speaking Caribbean, posted 1:16.4 in his spin.

Sunday morning was particularly busy at the Portmore, St Catherine, racetrack as top guns such as DaCosta's pair of Derby-winning SEEKING MY DREAM and Gold Cup champion PERFECT NEIGHBOUR went at it in a six-furlong workout.

SEEKING MY DREAM, narrowly beaten by PHINEAS, while carrying topweight 57.0 kilos in the Coca Cola Invitational Mile on November 14, got the better of PERFECT NEIGHBOUR, suggesting the three-year-old is ready to stamp his authority in his second race in grade one.

SEEKING MY DREAM posted the fastest six-furlong workout Sunday morning, 1:13.2, putting away PERFECT NEIGHBOUR, who clocked 1:13.3.

Harry Parsard's trio - PETE'SWILDONE, POTCHEEN and speedy UPPA TUNE - were also in action on Sunday. PETE'SWILDONE galloped out of the mile chute, posting 1:33.4 for seven furlongs. UPPA TUNE was easy in 1:28.4 for the distance.

POTCHEEN, who has been off-colour, surprisingly worked well, posting 1:13.3 for six furlongs.
