Western Bureau:

A youthful St James High will bow into action this afternoon when they take on Maldon High in one of two 2016 ISSA-FLOW daCosta Cup Zone A matches scheduled. Elsewhere, Irwin High will be looking to keep Green Pond at bay when the two meet in the other fixture. Both matches are set for a 3:30 p.m. start.

It is expected that the Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore-coached St. James High will leave Maldon High with the maximum available points. Their pedigree speaks for itself, but with what is said to be their most inexperienced squad in several years, Maldon may stand a slight chance to spring a surprise.

Whitmore has shown that he knows how to get the best out of his players over the years, however, and will, no doubt, have his team in top form for their opening salvo in this year's competition.

Green Pond, for their part, is threatening to upset the two more fancied teams (Cornwall College and St. James High).

They had a great preseason and even defeated Munro College in a warm-up match and are, according to sources, slowly building on each year's achievement.

A win against Irwin is no foregone conclusion, but one that is expected of the Gregory Daley-coached team, ready to claim a place in topping Zone A and thus signalling that they ought to be taken seriously.
