Reynolds: The time was right

Veteran netball coach Minneth Reynolds says that the time was right for her to step down as head coach for the Sunshine Girls and believes that the current crop of national senior netballers can lift the sport if given the right guidance.

Reynolds, who has been involved with the national programme at varying levels since 2005, achieving particular success with the country's age-group teams, decided to end her contract with Netball Jamaica (NJ) one year before its expiration, following a somewhat surprising series win over arch-rivals England.

Contrary to earlier reports, Reynolds' most recent deal with NJ, which was signed in May 2016 under the signature of current president Dr Paula Daley-Morris, was due to run its course on December 31, 2017.

The decision to end the deal, she says, is due to personal reasons.

"It's personal," Reynolds shared. "All things must come to an end whether it's good or bad. It's just that my time has come for me say let's give someone else a chance."

Reynolds' reign included a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand and a 2-1 win over England, their first away win over the Roses since 2007. Both series were played away.

"Most persons would not have done what I did. I had a very young and inexperienced squad that I took to New Zealand. I wasn't afraid. Win, lose, or draw, I was determined to go to New Zealand."

While not slamming the door shut on a possible return to the programme, Reynolds, who says she has no regrets about her experiences, believes the time is right to afford the opportunity to another individual, one she hopes will nurture what she considers the talented group of ladies in the Sunshine Girls programme.

"For now, I think I am taking a well-needed break. I have been in the programme since 2005, and I think it's time for someone else. There is no regret. I have done my time. I have done well, particularly with the juniors, and I did my best with the seniors," Reynolds told STAR Sports.
