Andrew Peart, head coach of UWI FC, said they are not taking anything for granted, as they continue their quest for a spot in the top six of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) competition this season.

UWI FC are currently sixth in the standings on 39 points, four ahead of seventh-place Tivoli Gardens, with six matches remaining in the competition.

UWI FC are coming off a 2-2 come-from-behind draw away against Arnett Gardens on Sunday.

“We are not in safe spot at the moment because it is just five points and we can move in either direction and so what we have to do is to remain humble and continue to work hard,” said Peart.

“We need to limit our concession of goals because now we are scoring goals, but the thing is that we are conceding goals, and so we need to stop doing that as we head down the stretch,” he said.

“Six games is a lot of points left on offer because that is 18 points. We can’t be certain for a position as yet, but our intention and our objective is to make it into the top six,” Peart added.

UWI FC have registered three consecutive draws in their last three matches and Peart added that his team has been playing well since the start of the year and he is hoping that they can finish the round on a positive note.

“We have been playing pretty well because we are on a good run now. What we have to do is just continue creating a team that can foster good competition among each other and that helps those who go out on the weekend to be better,” Peart said.

Reflecting on his team’s performance against Arnett Gardens on Sunday, Peart stated: “That was a serious mental challenge for us because we were down 2-0 away and we came back and tie the game and we even had opportunities where we could have won it. That is just the signs of the good moment that we are in and we have to capitalise and in doing that we have to win games.”
