Faulkland FC celebrate after winning the JFF Western Confederation midseason final last year.

Gregory Palmer, coach of Faulkland FC, said Saturday's 2-1 win over Wadadah FC to take the JFF Western Confederation Charley's JB Rum Super League title meant a lot to the club as they wanted to bring home some sort of silverware to honour their sponsors, First Choice Finance.

In a repeat of last year's final at Jarrett Park, Faulkland came from behind to dethrone the defending champions. O'Brian Robinson gave Wadadah the lead in the 26th minute, however, Radcliff Dawkins, who was also named MVP for the final, found the equaliser for Faulkland 11 minutes later. On the stroke of half-time, the competition leading goalscorer, Ewan Barton, scored what proved to be the winning goal to take his tally to 14.

"From in the changing room, I told them, once we score our goals we should do well. All throughout the competition we have been creating a lot of chances," Palmer said.

"It was very important for us because, you know, we have our sponsors in First Choice Finance, and we always want to give them trophies. This is what they would want to see, so this was very important to us in topping off the season unbeaten as well. So going into the play-offs, it would be a good confidence booster for the players," he added.

Importance

Palmer, who expressed the importance of making it to the Red Stripe Premier League next season, is happy for the week's break before their first match of the play-offs.

"Our first opponent is Downs from Manchester. We just have to go back to training and do what we have to do ahead of our game next weekend. Making it to the RSPL is very important for us as well," Palmer said.

Daniel Ricketts, coach of Wadadah, downplayed the lost, stating that his side was more focus on Wednesday's RSPL play-offs match against Vere FC, which is also scheduled for Jarrett Park at 6:30 pm.

"Well, yes we are a bit disappointed but overall, just two defensive error cost us the game. It was more like a practice session for the play-offs, with an incentive at this moment. As you can see, three of our starters we had to leave on the bench because of injuries, and we didn't want to risk them with Wednesday around the corner," Ricketts said.
