England-born striker Kemar Roofe gave the clearest indication yet that he could soon be representing the Reggae Boyz in their bid to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Rangers striker is among a bevy of players that the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) have on their radar to recruit ahead of the final round of qualifying, which begins in September. West Ham's Michail Antonio is currently undergoing the process of applying for a Jamaican passport after committing his international future recently, and Reading defender Liam Moore received his documents and is now eligible for selection.

In an interview with ESPN FC on Friday, Roofe said that he was interested in the JFF's pitch to him, with the World Cup being the main goal, and revealed that he is now going through the process to acquire his documents.

"Yes, of course. Who wouldn't want to go to the World Cup? So yes, definitely that excites me. But we got to get there first," Roofe said. "I am currently sorting out my passport, so it's positive signs."

When contacted, JFF General Secretary Dalton Wint ,while not confirming Roofe's application process, said that they are facilitating a number of players who want to suit up for the country.

"We have been trying to assist all the players who have shown an interest to represent Jamaica," Wint told STAR Sports.

While reaction has been mixed regarding the recruitment of foreign-born players, Roofe says that the country has a right to pursue those prospects

"Well, I've got to say 'yes' because my name is involved. And why not? Other countries are doing it, so I don't see why Jamaica can't, or shouldn't be doing it," Roofe said. "And with the number of players that could play for Jamaica now and over the years, we could have had a really good team because there are so many players."

Roofe has made 17 appearances for his Scottish club Rangers this season, scoring 10 goals en route to winning their first league title since 2011 and their 52nd overall, breaking the nine-year hold their rivals Celtic had on the trophy. It is also their first major trophy since financial problems resulted in their demotion to the third division in 2012.
