JAMAICA'S female boxing is on the move following a strong showing at the recently concluded American Boxing Confederation Caribbean Championships in Roseau, Dominica where the country ended with a total of five medals, four gold and a silver, to finished fourth overall behind Barbados, hosts Dominica and the United States Virgin Islands.

Jamaica's two female representatives Sherikee Moore and Jasmine Graham mined gold as they showed class and power to outgun their respective Barbadian opponents. Moore secured gold in the featherweight division by defeating Tiffany Delice while Graham stopped Faith Fields in the novice heavyweight division. For Graham, she's still basking in her latest achievement.

"I'm feeling very elated because I've been putting in the hard work over time perfecting my craft and to just execute what I learnt in training," she stated.

Despite the gold medal performance, Graham said prior to the championships, there were areas of her game that had her concerned, but was thankful that she executed well to secure the top prize and will now shift her attention to next month's national trials.

"I was focused on improving my reach, how to pick my shots and to calculate my movements. I want to compete at National Championships which will be taking place in January, so after that it's just to continue to represent my country," she added.

Graham, who along with Sherikee Moore are among the top female fighters in the country, hopes their latest showing will help to promote female boxing in Jamaica.

"I would love to see more females involved in boxing. It is not a sport to damage you. The first rule of boxing is to protect yourself at all times and once you learn that, then you just perfect your craft and then get into the ring and execute," Graham said.
