Jamaican boxer Tevoy Barrett, under the mentorship of coach Duane Mitchell, is on a quest to become a world champion, with aspirations to secure a spot on the Jamaican team for the Paris Olympic Games.

Mitchell, the head coach at Mitch Athletics gym in Trinidad and Tobago, expressed his belief in Barrett's potential, stating that the 23-year-old fighter possesses the qualities to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

Having started coaching Barrett two years ago, Mitchell highlighted the boxer's natural power. He emphasised the importance of refining his explosiveness, reaction time and conditioning, to transform him into a complete and formidable athlete.

"He has the potential to go very far. He has the potential to become a world champion, and I am not saying that because he is under me," Mitchell said.

Barrett, who is set to celebrate his 24th birthday on February 20, is gearing up for the Jamaica national championships commencing on February 22. The middleweight fighter aims to secure a coveted spot at a tournament in Dominica, a crucial step in solidifying his position for the Olympic Games.

Mitchell expressed eagerness about Barrett's participation in the championships, recognising it as a vital opportunity for his protege to showcase his skills and advance on the competitive boxing scene.

As a former Caribbean Championship gold medallist with a commendable 10-4 record, Barrett brings a wealth of experience and accomplishments to his journey towards Olympic glory.

With Mitchell's guidance and Barrett's determination, the duo is poised to make waves in the boxing world, and the upcoming championships will serve as a significant stepping stone in Barrett's pursuit of becoming a world-class boxer and potential Olympic representative.
