LONDON, England (CMC):

Jamaica international Melissa Johnson scored one goal and set up another as Charlton Athletic brushed aside Watford in the Women's Championship.

The 32-year-old was on target in the 56th minute to provide the lead for the visitors at Vicarage Road yesterday before turning provider for Melisa Filis's injury-time strike.

For Charlton, the victory was their second on the bounce after their 3-1 win over Birmingham two weeks ago, leaving them third in the Championship standings on 39 points - only three points adrift leaders Crystal Palace.

Defender Rebecca McKenna was on hand to snuff out danger for the visitors after Bianca Baptiste got through on goal. Charlton responded when captain Kiera Skeels headed wide from a Filis corner, in a busy start to the game.

Freda Ayisi shot over the crossbar for Charlton and goalkeeper Jessica Gray was called into action to keep the visitors from falling behind approaching the break when Michelle Agyemang escaped her markers and shot from the box.

Johnson broke the deadlock early in the second half when she took the ball off goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel to fire into an empty net.

The enterprising Reggae Girl had a strike ruled out for off-side 10 minutes later but made amends with time ticking away at the end when she set up Filis for her near post finish.
