Titchfield’s head coach expects strong display at Champs

March 20, 2025

Titchfield High's head coach Kerron Grant expects a big improvement in his team's points tally at this year's ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships (Champs).

Last year Titchfield secured just one medal through Chevauna Grant, who claimed bronze in the Class One girls' 200 metres, and Grant, now in his second stint at the school after an eight-year sojourn at Spot Valley High and four years at Vere Technical, says he is pleased with the progress of his athletes this season.

"Last year we only got one medal at Champs, but I am very confident that we will earn more this time. We expect significant improvement from both the boys and girls' squads," Grant said in a recent interview with STAR Sports.

Chevauna Grant will return in Class One, while on the boys' side, much is expected from Shavan Jarrett in the Class One 800m. Jarrett is the top contender heading into Champs after winning the under-20 event in 1:50.32 at the Carifta Trials.

"Last year was Titchfield's best placing at Champs in more than 20 years and we expect more improvement. Both teams are peaking at the right time, and we are very excited about Champs," said Grant. "We have a solid support system at the school, led by the administration, coaching staff and parents. This has played a crucial role in the team's progress, and it keeps getting better," coach Grant said.

"We have a few athletes, led by Jarrett, who will make a big impact. Expect us to shake things up for the Corporate Area teams. We have strong personalities across different disciplines, and we anticipate more finalists and more medals," Grant stated.
